Discover Big Pig | Bar - Bbq - Beer (46 Truong Son, Tan Binh District)

If you’re cruising down Trường Sơn street near Tân Sơn Nhất Airport, it’s hard to miss Big Pig | Bar - Bbq - Beer (46 Truong Son, Tan Binh District). Tucked at 46 Trường Sơn, P.2, Tân Bình, Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh 70000, this barbecue joint has quickly become one of my go-to spots whenever friends fly into Ho Chi Minh City and ask for something bold, smoky, and unapologetically meaty.

The first time I walked in, I noticed the laid-back bar vibe right away. Exposed brick walls, long wooden tables, craft beer taps gleaming behind the counter-it felt like the kind of place where you can settle in for hours. I’ve visited three times in the past six months, and each time the energy was consistent: upbeat music, groups clinking glasses, and that unmistakable aroma of slow-cooked pork ribs drifting through the air.

Let’s talk about the menu. As the name suggests, pork is the star. Their smoked ribs are cooked low and slow, following a classic American barbecue method where meat is smoked for hours at controlled temperatures. According to the National Barbecue & Grilling Association in the U.S., slow smoking at around 107-120°C helps break down collagen, resulting in tender, juicy meat. You can taste that technique here. The ribs I ordered last time slid cleanly off the bone, glazed in a slightly sweet, slightly tangy house sauce that balanced sugar, vinegar, and spice beautifully.

The pulled pork burger is another standout. Served with crispy fries and house-made coleslaw, it’s messy in the best way possible. The bun holds up surprisingly well against the juicy filling-a detail many BBQ places overlook. I once brought a colleague who works in F&B consulting, and even he commented on the texture contrast: crunchy slaw, soft bun, smoky pork. It’s those small execution details that show real kitchen discipline.

Of course, no proper BBQ experience is complete without beer. The bar selection ranges from local Vietnamese craft brews to imported lagers and IPAs. Craft beer culture in Vietnam has grown rapidly over the last decade, with industry reports from organizations like the Brewers Association noting Southeast Asia as a fast-expanding market for independent breweries. Big Pig taps into that trend smartly, offering pairings that actually make sense. I tried a hoppy IPA with the brisket platter, and the bitterness cut through the fat perfectly, refreshing my palate between bites.

Speaking of brisket, it deserves a mention. Beef brisket is notoriously tricky. Pitmasters often say it’s the true test of barbecue skill because of its tough connective tissue. Here, the brisket is smoked until the fat renders into the meat, creating that melt-in-your-mouth effect. While it may not rival legendary Texas smokehouses, it’s impressive for Ho Chi Minh City, especially given the challenges of sourcing high-quality beef consistently.

Service has been reliably friendly. On my second visit, we had a larger group and asked about customizing a platter. The staff walked us through portion sizes and recommended combinations based on appetite and budget. That transparency builds trust. Prices are mid-range for Tân Bình District, particularly considering the location so close to the airport. You’re paying for quality ingredients, proper smoking techniques, and a comfortable space to relax.

Online reviews across food platforms generally highlight the ribs, beer variety, and lively atmosphere. Some diners mention that peak hours can get noisy, which I’d agree with. If you prefer a quieter meal, earlier in the evening is better. Still, for many people, the buzz is part of the charm.

Hygiene standards appear solid from what I observed. Open kitchen elements allow you to see parts of the preparation process, and tables are cleared promptly. While I don’t have access to official inspection data, nothing during my visits raised concerns.

Overall, Big Pig delivers what it promises: hearty barbecue, cold beer, and a sociable bar setting in Tân Bình. Whether you’re meeting friends, hosting out-of-town guests, or just craving properly smoked meat near 46 Trường Sơn, this spot holds its own in Ho Chi Minh City’s growing BBQ scene.

  • I arrived at a restaurant with a rather interesting name, "BigPig," but it was disappointing that there were very few pork dishes. The place was quite lively in the evenings, and the staff were busy, but they provided excellent service – customer care deserves priority! I tried a cold beer, but I've forgotten the brand....

  • Nice place ! Our hotel was nearby so went in for a visit during dinner time and here is what we tried! We went for a broccoli garlic starter which was super good, broccoli was cooked well and the sauce was umami, must try We had the chicken wings which was the worst dish out of all, the batter had NO FLAVOUR, not even an ounce of salt or pepper, no sauces given on the side, so bland, do not order this! We also had the y Parmesan which was good, served with spaghetti bolognese. It was definitely quite heavy, but the quantity is good for two people. Overall the vibe of this place was terrific, and not too crowded as well.

  • Atmosphere is great. I recommend coming here, especially if you’re out of town. It reminds me of the dive bars and restaurants back in the states. The BBQ isn’t quite right like how it is in the Southern but still good. Craft beers were good as well. We had the pizza which was made fresh and the ribeye cooked medium well. Everything was great and the music was modern pop. Reminded me a lot from living in the US.

  • Loads of beer geared up for westerners so it’s a it a bit more expensive. Good selection of local and western beer. Serves food and shows the sports. Nice if you fancy a bit of familiarity! ????????

  • Large choice or beers and good offers if you are on time for them, however it is slightly pricier than other options around, especially only for a drink. If you wanna visit the barbecue part it is recommendable, but for the bar / beer part itself not so much outside of happy hours.

  • I was delighted to see there was a decent Western restaurant close to the airport. The food was OK but not great. That said, I only had the barbecue pulled pork pizza which I found the sauce to be a little too sweet. Vegetables with good though. The staff took care to follow instructions to have no onion and less garlic without stirfry vegetables. Happy to see a good selection of craft beers on the menu. If I had the opportunity to try other dishes on the menu, maybe I would would score higher. I can’t forget to mention that I was well surprised to see the ++ on the bill. I must have missed it on the menu but we had a 5% service charge and 10% tax on top of that. Felt like I was in back in Bali for a moment there.

  • I walk in during a rain storm at 630 pm. to a nearly empty restaurant. Escorted to my table, and the waitress went back and sat with other workers. We all make misjudgments She apologized when I had her come over and did not realize I needed immediate assitance. A much better evening. The food is good...but the staff are amazing. Good English and a sense of humor. It could have been the beer....but I laughed and talked to a receptive staff. Food: beer in a heavy frosted mug. Fried cheese sticks presented nicely but needed a bit more frying time. Ribs..wow! The common standard is fall of the bone...not for me as too thin. These were so fresh and absolutely the correct texture. I should have gone to the back and bow to the chef. Wow!! Did need more potato wedges though. Sorry! Please go to the big pig and pig out on ribs. Thank you my new friends.
